Installing ServerMagic on an NT Server
--------------------------------------
  1. Insert the ServerMagic CD into your CD-ROM drive.

If the installation program does not run
automatically, run BROWSECD.EXE from your CD-ROM.

  2. Click Install ServerMagic.

You can also choose to make a rescue diskette or
     read documentation.

  3. Follow the prompts on your screen.

Using ServerMagic on an OS/2 Server
-----------------------------------

  2. Change to the DOS-OS2 directory on the CD and run
     the MAKEDISK.BAT file.

  3. Follow the prompts on your screen.

     * Note: To run ServerMagic on an OS/2 Server place
the first disk created in step 3 into your
floppy drive and reboot your server.

Using ServerMagic on a Linux Server
-----------------------------------
  1. Insert the ServerMagic CD into your CD-ROM drive.

  2. Change to the LINUX directory on the CD and view
     the README files.

The README files contain complete instructions on
how to create ServerMagic diskettes and run them
     on your server.

Before Running ServerMagic (General)
------------------------------------

* Back up all partitions before modifying them. Your
data is the most valuable part of your server.
Although ServerMagic is unlikely to damage your data,
other system failures--hardware, software, or power--
can put your data at risk if they occur during
  repartitioning.

* Connect to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
ServerMagic may not be able to recover if a power
failure occurs during repartitioning. By having the
server and all connected hard drives protected by a
UPS system, you can avoid the problems caused by
  power failures.

Before Running ServerMagic on a NetWare Server
----------------------------------------------

* Make sure all clients are logged off. ServerMagic
dismounts all volumes as it starts up and reboots the
system as it exits. Schedule ServerMagic sessions for
off-hours and notify clients that the system will be
  unavailable during that time.

Before Running ServerMagic on an NT Server
------------------------------------------

* Back up the BOOT.INI file before modifying the hard
disk that contains the system or boot partitions.

* Take the server off-line. Having connected clients
increases the likelihood that ServerMagic will have
to reboot the server to perform an operation.
(ServerMagic will always reboot the server, however,
if the boot partition is modified.)

* You should run NT's CHKDSK on any partitions you plan
to change. If you find errors, fix them first, then
  make changes to the partition.
